The Creation of a Community Responsiveness Bureau in the Queens DA’s Office

  • Judge Grasso will establish a Community Responsiveness Bureau (CRB) to focus on the types of offenses that undermine a community’s sense of well being, such as assault, drug dealing, fare evasion on buses and subways, shoplifting, aggressive panhandling, auto theft, vandalism, and trespassing

  • Left unaddressed, these offenses create conditions conducive to significant increases in more serious and violent crimes

  • CRB will be led by a bureau chief who reports directly to DA Grasso

Community Action Boards

  • Judge Grasso will take the lead in organizing five Community Action Boards (CABs) throughout Queens

    • NE CAB, NW CAB, SE CAB, SW CAB, and Rockaway CAB

  • These five Community Action Boards will be made up of representatives of their communities, including victims, clergy, and local civic leaders

  • NYPD Borough and Precinct Commanders will also be invited to participate and ensure cooperation and enforcement priorities and strategies that are in line with the communities’ expectations

  • The Community Action Boards will hold regularly scheduled meetings to advise the DA on proactive and restorative justice based strategies designed to reduce crime and disorder, while increasing community partnership and connection

  • Judge Grasso will work with all criminal justice stakeholders to ensure that matters emanating from the Community Action Boards are appropriately resolved
